Requirements for calculating percentages are fairly present in all the facets of life including business, finance, science, and even statistics. When you are searching for the discount, interest rates, or whether you are dealing with statistical data, that is when you learn the percentages calculations. In this article, there are a few methods that can greatly help you with how to calculate percentage from 100 or any other number.
Calculate Percentage of Marks Obtained
To find out how much percent you scored in your exam, you need to follow the following formula.
- First of all, calculate the total marks you obtained or scored in your subjects by adding every single subject’s marks.
- Then, calculate the total marks for all the subjects by adding up their maximum marks(M.M.).
- Now, divide the obtained marks with the total maximum marks.
- Multiply the result with 100 to get a percentage of your marks.
For example, a student scored the following marks in his exams.
Subject | Obtained or Scored Marks | Maximum Marks |
Subject 1 | 57 | 80 |
Subject 2 | 89 | 100 |
Subject 3 | 97 | 100 |
Subject 4 | 65 | 80 |
Subject 5 | 63 | 80 |
Subject 6 | 73 | 80 |
Total | 444 (Total scored marks) | 520 (Total maximum marks) |
Now, to calculate the percentage follow the below formula
= Total scored marks × 100
Total maximum marks
= 444 × 100 = 85.38
520
Therefore, the above student scored 85.38% in his exams.
